Texas Concealed Handgun License (CHL) Course
The Dallas Pistol Club now offers a Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) approved course that is required for those who wish to apply for a Concealed Handgun License.
The course includes mandated classroom instruction, document notarization, passport-style photographs, assistance in completing the required paperwork, and live-fire qualification on the DPC range. You will need to bring a functioning firearm and a minimum of 50 rounds of ammunition.
Note: This course assumes you have a basic working knowledge of the handgun you will be using for the live-fire qualification. If you do not, then it is recommended that you first complete an NRA Basic Pistol Course (offered at DPC throughout the year) or an NRA First Steps Pistol Orientation Course.
Class Dates
Total classroom/range time is about 11 to 12 hours, over the course of two days. Classes start at 8 AM both days and run until approximate 1:30 to 3:30 PM.Classes are currently scheduled for the following dates:
- August 09 - 10, 2008
- October 18 - 19, 2008
- November 22 - 23, 2008
Additional Information
Please understand that completion of this CHL course does not guarantee you a concealed handgun license. This course fulfills the DPS requirements for you to apply for a license. Once you apply, a State and FBI background check will be conducted to determine your eligibility to carry. Once approved your concealed handgun license will be sent to you by the DPS.
Bring your firearm, but do not bring it into the classroom; leave it secured in your vehicle until told to retrieve it. A firearm will not be needed until we go to the firing range. You will not need a holster. If you have a DPS application packet, then you may bring it. If you don’t have one, then one will be provided by the Instructor. A current driver’s license/state photo ID will be required in order to notarize your documents.
